Statistics say that online shoppers abandon 6 out of 10 carts! What really happens in these 6 carts that missed making it to the payment gateway?Photographs- Check. Site layout- Check. Navigation- Check. And do youstill face the issue of abandoned carts? Ask yourself these
questions:

1. Do
you have detailed descriptions for each product you sell?

An online shopper does not have the luxury of touching, inspecting and validating an item before purchase. So, he would like detailed product descriptions that include high-quality images.

2. How
organized is a search on your website?

This is where an online store beats a brick and mortar store hands down. A good online store is one that sorts items into logical categories. Potential buyers will leave your site when they search for mason jars and the search returns books on the Freemasons. They really don’t care about your state of the art payment gateway or unique, user friendly website design at this point!

3. Do
you suggest other items?

When a customer is looking at a particular product, try to offer suggestions. This makes the customer’s job easier. He can browse a collection of items that are similar to his current selection.

Try to upsell during checkout. Customers tend to decide for an upgrade when they see something better just before confirming a payment.

4. How
secure is your payment gateway?

If you are lax with security, you lose customers. And when their word gets around, you have no other option but to shut shop. Period.

Invest in beefing up security. Well informed customers do not shop from sites that do not use SSL security that store credit card details without asking. Another red flag from the customer end is when sites do NOT ask for the CVV number found on the back of a credit card. PayPal is also a wonderful payment option.

5. Do
you test every link that is on your site?

This is one of the greatest quality hazards that plagues online retailers. You are digging a virtual grave for your business if you click on a link to an item and find a ‘Page not displayed’ error message.

6. Are
you transparent about shipping charges? Are there any other hidden costs?

A customer would be left extremely angry and disappointed if he goes all the way to check-out to find that there is a shipping charge that’s not previously mentioned while he laboriously typed out his address and details. That’s one customer who will never step in to your store again!
